Summary (extract)

Swiss Mountain Guides' Association - Qualified guides

Classic summer and winter mountain activities lie at the heart of Swiss mountain guides'activities. However, they are also involved in trekking, expeditions, mountaineering at altitude, freeclimbing, canyoning, snowshoe hiking, ice-climbing and other more specialized activities. The Swiss Mountain Guides's Association as a national organization, is open to all such new sports. It is strongly in favor of up-to-date professional training which does justice to the human, technical and specialist demands made on mountain guides.

The association's highest priority is accident prevention. Its members are glad to give out information on local conditions and facilities, and see the reserve of those in distress as their moral duty.

The Swiss Mountain Guides' Association is also committed to nature conservation and to the protection of its members' interests. It calls for a competitive attitude to tourism which at the same time avoids being destructive to the environment.

The association is in favour of the free market. However, in the interests of its customers' safety, it requires an extremely high standard of training of all its members. It fights actively against competition from those who practise without the necessary qualifications, as they endanger the good name of the profession.

The association actively support partnerships with other Alpine associations. Its working languages are German and French.
